Committee

Aims

The Parents’ Association’s aims are to raise funds to support the education in the school and to improve links between students, parents and staff. All parents are automatically members and a committee organises events, allocates funds to bids from the school and ensures that the PA’s obligations as a registered charity are met.

We run a series of fundraising events including a gift and craft fair, a food festival and fete, a quiz night, a Ceilidh, car boot sales and discos for Years 7 and 8.

The funds we raise are used to buy a wide range of equipment and services for the school – see the ‘What wefund’ page for more information.

We decided in the Spring term of 2008 that we would like to build up a fund to support the installation of an art work of some kind to celebrate the opening of the new school. We are currently thinking about what form this might take, but we very much want to involve students in this project and will be discussing the project with the Art Department at the school. If you have any ideas about this, please use the comments facility below to let us know about them.

Two committee members weren’t present when the photo was taken: Lucy Theobald and Susan Smith.  Staff representation depends on availability and other members of the leadership team, including Jez Sharpe and Neil Cook, also attend meetings.  We are particularly grateful for all the time that staff spend working with the PA at our committees and events.  Without staff participation some of our fundraising events – particularly our regular discos for Years 7 and 8 – couldn’t take place.

The committee share a wide range of tasks  including organising our events, publicity, catering, and looking after our websites and contact lists and ensuring that we operate in line with the requirements of a registered charity.  The three officers are also trustees.

As you can see we’re a very friendly group and new committee members are always very welcome. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to get involved and don’t forget that there are many ways in which you can contribute to the PA’s activities without being a committee member.
